Martha Karua to Peninah Malonza: Tourism will continue after maandamano

Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua has responded to Cabinet Secretary for Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage Peninah Malonza tourism ‘advert’ saying it will only happen after the anti-government protests.

This after Malonza tweeted that the time to witness the World beast migration at Maasai Mara is around the corner.

“The season to witness one of the Seven Wonders of the Natural World is here! Visit Maasai Mara National Reserve for a thrilling treat of nature’s spectacle,” Malonza tweeted.

However, in her curt response, Ms Karua tweeted: “After the demonstrations.”

The tourism industry is among the sectors that have been greatly affected by Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya Coalition protests.

Today being the second of the three-day anti-government protest, demonstrations have been witnessed in various parts of the country.

In Nairobi, protesters clashed with police officers in Mathare and Kibera with tension remaining high in parts of the city.

There was a heavy presence of police officers in parts of the city deemed as troubled spots, with many businesses remaining closed for the day.

On Wednesday, Azimio la Umoja supporters battled the police for the better part of the day in what is the commencement of three days of protests by the opposition that are expected to continue until Friday.

Despite a heavy presence of police officers, in Nairobi’s Kibera and Mathare slums youths engaged the law enforcers in running battles.

In Kitengela, police officers have patrolled the streets continuously since 5am and have been dispersing groups of protesters.

Other reports indicate that two people were shot and seriously injured in Nakuru and Makueni counties while protesting. Three others were admitted to Nakuru Level 6 Hospital with gunshot wounds. Hundreds of protesters were also arrested in Nairobi, Mombasa and Nakuru.
