Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza: All my sisters are single
By Sammy WaweruMeru Governor Ms Kawira Mwangaza has declared all her sisters are single, in a statement that attracted significant attention on social media.
The County boss made the revelation during a cross-examination by her defense lawyer in her impeachment case before the Senate Assembly.
Ms Mwangaza was recently impeached by Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) in her county for the second time in a year.
The MCAs accuse her of among other matters, abusing her office, misappropriating public resources, and practicing nepotism.
During the cross-examination by her lawyer, the Governor denied claims one of her sisters is married to a Meru County official.
The lawyer asked, “You have been accused of nepotism, and it is claimed that one of your sisters is married to a Meru County official. Is this true or false?”
“All my sisters are single,” she responded.
Ms Mwangaza is married to Murega Baichu, a prominent musician in Meru, and has never shied of praising him in public.
At one point, the Governor attributed her victory in the Meru gubernatorial polls to her husband’s singing skills.
Ms Mwangaza defeated seasoned politicians including Kiraitu Murungi and Mithika Linturi to win the seat, against all odds.
The Governor is also on record asking any woman who refers to her husband as a baby daddy ‘to bring the children home so she can take care of them’.
“I love children,” she said at the time.
Meanwhile, the impeachment proceedings against the county boss were presided over by Senate Speaker Amason Kingi who, incidentally, served as Kilifi Governor for two terms.
The Senate absolved the Governor of blame after the proceedings, failing to approve her impeachment.
She will thus continue serving as Meru Governor until the end of her term of office in 2027.
