‘Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza’s impeachment is not a surprise’
By Wangu KanuriGithunguri MP Gathoni Wa Muchomba says she is not surprised by Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza’s impending impeachment.
In an interview with NTV, Muchomba explained that having interacted with the troubled governor during her time in the National Assembly, she expected her to fall out with the MCA owing to her stringent principles.
“She is a very firm person and believes in herself so much. It’s very difficult for anyone to convince her otherwise, on what she does not believe in; I can tell you so I saw this coming.”
Muchomba adds that she sensed Mwangaza would find it hard to manage the demands of MCAs after she assumed office.
“I advised her to reach out to other leaders especially the lawmakers because she was elected on an independent ticket and needed help to manage the affairs of the county.”
“I foresee more problems for her when she gets to the Senate because she does not have many friends in the political world.”
Mwangaza was on Wednesday impeached by Meru Members of the County Assembly (MCA) who accuse her of nepotism and abuse of office. The MCAs have accused her of among others, employing her relatives including her husband and two sisters.
The governor has, however, pleaded her innocence, claiming her fallout with the MCAs resulted from the sharing of public funds.
An attempt to make peace with the MCAs, who have publicly defied her, including a public apology has so far failed to bear fruit.
Mwangaza now awaits her fate at the Senate which is expected to listen to her side of the story before upholding or dismissing her impeachment.
