Mutahi Ngunyi atones for insulting Luos with emaciated goat
By HILARY KIMUYUPolitical analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has extended an olive branch to the Luo community by delivering a white goat as a symbolic apology for offensive tweets.
On Wednesday Ngunyi presented the goat to secretary general Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Apollo Mboya whom he had insulted in one of his tweets.
The political analyst’s beef with Mboya started late last month when the latter wrote a protest letter to the the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) calling for a probe and recommendation of hate speech charges against Mutahi for an infamous tweet in which Ngunyi refereed to the Luos as “poverty-stricken.”
Mutahi’s tweet also recommended ICC charges against Cord leader Raila Odinga for “selfishness”.
“Apollo Mboya should be FIRED for abuse of office and demeaning the law profession. If he passed his law school, he should re-read my tweets,” Ngunyi would later tweet in response to Mboya’s protest letter.
HUMBLE PIE
But after getting a great deal of flak from the public, Ngunyi – in his own words – ate the humble pie and apologized to the Luo community.
“I apologize to the LUO NATION unreservedly. No harm INTENDED. I am a product of Luo SCHOLARS whom I RESPECT immensely. I eat the HUMBLE PIE,” he wrote on Twitter.
But while Mboya seemed to have accepted Nguyi’s symbolic apology, Kenyans on Twitter termed the gesture as insincere.
Kaigai j.p. @johnkaigai wrote: “a tiny goat indeed, could have given a camel instead. Anyway.. how will the community share meat?” whileKevin Koech @Kevin_Koech said “He’s scared of being taken to court. @MutahiNgunyi is a coward. He should be sued though and face the full force of the law.”
Kishan gagan @KishahGagan summed it up thus: “mischief nothing symbolic….sounds like ?????”
