My father and I cannot fight! – Muhoozi to Museveni after savage NRM remarks
By Wangu KanuriUganda’s General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has changed his tune after going after his father’s political outfit, the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Muhoozi took a swipe at the party’s way of leadership saying that what it has become does not represent the people of Uganda.
After attracting traction going after his father, President Yoweri Museveni, Muhoozi now shared, “My father and I are the closest friends in the world. We share everything together. I cannot fight him because he made me. But even he knows who I am and my capabilities.”

Previously, Muhoozi had also shared that he believed in his father and Jesus Christ but not NRM.
“I believe in Jesus Christ and I believe in my father, General @KagutaMuseveni. I certainly do not believe in NRM. In Marxist terms, it is probably the most reactionary organisation in the country.”

The tweet attracted varying opinions even from Kizza Besigye, Uganda’s opposition leader.
The two leaders seemed to agree that NRM was ‘probably the most reactionary organisation in the country,’ with the post reuniting them and Muhoozi sharing he looked forward to discussing many issues with Besigye.
Museveni formed NRM moments after shooting his way to the State House in 1986.
The party has successfully nominated him to run for the presidency on six occasions, including twice when the country’s constitution was changed to allow him to continue being in office.
Muhoozi’s criticism comes even as NRM youth leaders recently endorsed President Museveni as their candidate in the 2026 presidential elections sparking disagreements in the northern region as some members felt that he needed to take a break when his current five-year term ends.

Additionally, the controversial Muhoozi is considered among the front runners to succeed his father who has ruled Uganda for the past three and a half decades.
Muhoozi announced his presidential bid by sharing that the only way he could repay his mother, Janet Museveni was by being Uganda’s President.
“The only way I can repay my great mother is by being President of Uganda! And I shall definitely do it.”
