New Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza makes key appointments
By Wangu KanuriNewly sworn-in Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza has made key appointments in the county’s revenue board in what she says are efforts to end corruption.
Ms Mwangaza has appointed Francis Mungai as the new General Manager in the Meru County Revenue Board replacing Mr John Ntoiti who had served for the last four years.
At the same time, Fridah Kagwiria has been appointed the new Director of the County’s Revenue Board replacing Mr Eric Kabuae while Mr Harrison Gitobu will be the Chief of staff in the Office of the Governor.

The former Meru Women Representative won the gubernatorial seat as an Independent candidate. She garnered 209,148 votes to trounce political heavyweights in the county, including former Meru Senator Mithika Linturi got 183,859 votes and former governor Kiraitu Murungi who got 110,814 votes.
However, after being declared as the winner, Ms Mwangaza joined President-elect William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza camp. The first female Meru governor had earlier revealed that she was perceived as an underdog during the campaign period with Mr Murungi arguing that she was not capable of running the county government.

Armed with her manifesto and her husband’s words of encouragement and support, Ms Mwangaza confounded her critics.
“We could not afford to pay entertainers in our campaign meetings. My husband’s music prowess played a big role in my victory,” she said.
Ms Mwangaza termed her victory as a prophecy that came true.
“I had told Kiraitu that he would not only lose this election but he would come third. I also told him that I would beat him with a double margin. It came to pass,” she said.
