ODM warned not to impose Raila’s daughter in Kibra
By NAIROBI NEWS TEAMA close ally of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has urged ODM not to impose Rosemary Odinga as Kibra’s parliamentary candidate in 2017.
Eluid Owalo, who served as head of the party’s presidential campaign secretariat in the last general elections, took to his official social media page to express this view hours after media reports claimed Rosemary will be contesting for the seat.
Mr Owalo is also eyeing the Kibra seat currently held by Ken Okoth.
“Having served as head of Presidential Campaigns in the last elections, I am aware that mismanagement of party nominations and apparent imposition of parliamentary candidates on the people led to voter apathy in our strongholds.
“It is therefore prudent and imperative that the party exercises impartiality in the primaries this time round to avert a repeat of the same fiasco.” Mr wrote on his official Facebook page.
Rosemary is the second born child of Cord leader Raila Odinga. Her appearance in the constituency last weekend and subsequent address at a public rally has raised speculation that she will be gunning for the seat.
She is scheduled to return to the constituency this weekend to officially register as a voter.
Kibra constituency was previously part of the greater Lang’ata constituency that was represented by Raila Odinga for close to two decades.
