ODM, Wiper in show of might in Embakasi South final push
By Evelyne MusambiCampaigns in the Embakasi South by-election ended on Tuesday evening with ODM and Wiper party showing their might in their final rallies.
Former MPs Julius Mawathe (Wiper) and Irshad Sumra (ODM) were boosted by their respective party leaders who attended their final rallies.
Wiper backed by Ford Kenya and Jubilee party members congregated at Mukuru Kwa Reuben urging the constituents to re-elect Mawathe whose election was nullified in court.
“IEBC ikifungua by 6 O’clock muwe mmefunga laini, watu ambao wanaenda kazini kwanza wapige kura,” said Kalonzo Musyoka.
The Wiper party leader urged employers to be lenient to constituents and allow them time to vote.
“Wale waliofanyia Mawathe apoteze kiti ni IEBC sio Mawathe mwenyewe kwa hivyo mna haki ya kumrudishia kiti chake. Na siku ya ijumaa nataka mtoke mapema muonane na Sumra mundu khumundu,” Moses Wetangula said.
The ODM brigade led by party leader Raila Odinga, who flew back from a state assignment in Mombasa, congregated at Mukuru Kwa Njenga to drum up support for Sumra.
“Niliahidi Sumra kwamba huu mkutano wa mwisho lazimi nihudhurie,” Mr Odinga said.
Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris urged constituents to vote for Sumra come Friday.
The by-elections are scheduled for Friday.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Tuesday completed training of polling clerks and administered the oath of secrecy ahead of the exercise.
