OKIL welfare group donates water tank to Mathari hospital
By Mercy SimiyuRarieda MP Otiende Omollo, who also is a renowned lawyer, and Law Society of Kenya (LSK) vice-president Faith Odhiambo on January 20, 2023 led members of the Okil Kamaloka Welfare Organisation (OKWA) in holding a procession within Nairobi.
The procession, which commenced at Karura Forest and culminated at the Mathari Teaching and Referral Hospital, was a charitable event titled “Walk for Water” dedicated to creating and promoting public awareness about the importance of access to clean and safe water.
The walk culminated in OKWA’s donation of a 10,000-lt. water tank to the Mathari Hospital to improve on the Hospital’s existing water-supplying facilities.
The Mathari Hospital administration received OKWA’s donation with gratitude, emphasising that “water is life” and that courtesy the generosity of OKWA’s members “life has been added” to the patients and all users of the Hospital.
“It was refreshing to have this walk and humbling to interact with members of the country’s referral mental hospital,” explained Ms Odhiambo.
“We intend to do more in the coming matters in a bid to connect with nature and the society,” added Omollo.
Ms Omollo said OKWA intends to hold “Earth and Arbor Day ” dedicated to planting of trees in different counties in the country as part of climate conservation activities.
Further, to celebrate culture and heritage, OKWA will hold its inaugural Annual Cultural Gala Dinner set for February 10, 2024, in Kisumu, and extends its invitation to all members of the public to join the celebration.
Also present during the procession was Mwaura Kabata, the LSK Council Member, and other senior and junior members of the Law Society of Kenya.
OKWA is a registered voluntary membership group operating under the Society’s Act (Cap. 108 Law of Kenya).
The organization has over registered 700 members, comprising advocates and lawyers, who practice law and provide legal services throughout the country and the East African region.
OKWA believes in equality of opportunities in the advancement of the professional interests of its lawyering members and the society at large.
In the past, OKWA has engaged in a number of activities including patronising children homes, providing monetary and food donations to the needy and vulnerable members of society during COVID-19 period, settling outstanding balances of tuition fees for some of the Kenya School of Law students and students from different Universities in the country, as well as setting up and equipping libraries and computer labs in various schools.
