Renowned veteran preacher Pastor Victor Kanyari recently opened up about the devastating impact of a scandal that cost him everything, including his marriage to Betty Bayo.

The pastor, known for his involvement in a scandal where he was accused of soliciting money from congregants in exchange for prayers, recounted the aftermath in a heartfelt TikTok video.

He revealed the profound consequences, including the departure of his wife and children, financial losses, and the abandonment by co-workers.

“My wife left me. My wife and children left. Life became so hard. I just stayed with my parents. I lost money. My co-workers left me. But there is one thing I have refused to do, and that is to be discouraged,” Pastor Kanyari shared in the video.

The scandal, exposed in an investigative report by Mohamed Ali – Now the MP of Nyali – and award winning journalist John Allan Namu, led to a significant exodus from Pastor Kanyari’s church, impacting both his personal and professional life.

Notably, Betty Bayo, the pastor’s alleged ex-wife, clarified her marital status during an episode of the gospel reality show, Oh Sister.

She affirmed being in her first marriage with Hiram Gitau, also known as Tash, and denied ever being formally married to Pastor Kanyari.

“I am not a divorcee, I have never been married twice,” Bayo confidently stated on the show, emphasizing her commitment to her current husband.

He refuted claims of a come-we-stay arrangement, asserting that he had visited her parents, paid dowry, and fulfilled all requirements for an official marriage.

Pastor Kanyari clarified: “I had visited her parents, paid the dowry and fulfilled all the requirements to make her my wife. I would never have children with someone I was not married to. To me, that is what it means to be officially married.”

That said, despite the split, Kanyari insisted that he would always be a part of her life as a co-parent.
