Police have arrested the brother and girlfriend of murder suspect Kevin Kinyanjui Kang’ethe as investigations into the missing fugitive, who remains on the run, gear up.

Nairobi News understands the two were nabbed on February 12, 2024, by detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and questioned over their kin’s bold escape from lawful custody.

This even as authorities say they have tracked the suspect’s movements since he reportedly walked out of Muthaiga police station barefoot and disappeared into the crowd nearby.

“It is true that the two were questioned over what they know following the escape of the murder suspect from lawful custody,” a sleuth privy to the matter told Nairobi News.

It is now emerging that Mr Kinyanjui met with his brother who is being questioned by the police moments after fleeing Muthaiga Police Station.

In addition, Ms Beatrice Ng’ethe, a lawyer who is related to Mr Kinyanjui and who had last week Friday been nabbed by DCI officers from her home spent the better part of Monday at Pangani Police Station where she was assisting in the ongoing investigations.

“I am at the station assisting the police in the ongoing investigations. We shall talk later,” she told this reporter.

The lawyer was set free on the evening of Sunday, February 11, 2024, after paying a Sh100,000 cash bail.

A sleuth privy to the matter said that Ms Ng’ethe became a person of interest in the investigations after it emerged that she was in constant communication with the fugitive.

A day before the murder suspect fled Pangani Police Station, Ms Ng’ethe had gone to have a word with him as he was seeking legal advice on how he would handle the matter.

So far Ms Ng’ethe has denied privy of the suspects’ plans to escape from lawful custody.

Mr Kinyanjui was to spend time at the station’s cell number four as he waited for a case on his expatriation to the US where he is accused of murdering Ms Margaret Mbitu.

The US has already issued a warrant of arrest against him.
