Police in Nairobi have launched investigations of a University of Nairobi student who was found dead inside a toilet along Kirinyaga Road, Nairobi.

The decomposing body of Franklin Ondwari,27, was found hanging on the window of a toilet where he lived with his friend.
Police suspect Ondwari committed suicide even as they launch comprehensive investigations into circumstances that led to his demise. The police maintain that the motive of the incident is yet to be established.

The deceased was reported missing by his family on July 17, 2024, after leaving his mobile phone on charge.
“His friend and roommate reported that he smelt a soul smell coming from the toilet and when he went to check he found the body hanging on a rope,” states a Police report seen by Nairobi News.

No suicide note was found at the scene of the incident. Ondwari and his roommate lived on the 20th floor of a residential house along Kirinyaga Road.

The body of the deceased has been moved to Nairobi Funeral Home pending autopsy and investigations.

In November 2023, another UoN student was found dead after a suspected suicide in Kabete, Nairobi where he stayed alone in one of the hostels at the institution.

Police recovered a suicide note that seemed to be bidding farewell to his parents and clan written in his dialect in his room.

The body had no visible injuries other than marks around the neck.
