Renowned music video director and television producer Jibril Blessing, better known as J Blessing, has shared his unconventional views on marriage, stressing his preference for a life partner over the traditional concept of a wife.

His comments came during the launch of the reality show ‘The Bahati Empire’, where he engaged in a candid conversation with other celebrities.

Reflecting on the often overlooked aspects of choosing a life partner, J Blessing highlighted a critical mistake many men make.

“Mimi ntasema hivi (I’ll put it this way), it’s very good to have a life partner. You know, we say wife and we make it look like a relationship should be in a certain way. The difference is that everybody can have a wife but not everybody can have a partner,” he told comedians Chipukeezy and Butita.

Explaining further, J Blessing said a true partner is someone who believes in your vision and overlooks trivial flaws.

“A partner is someone who believes in what you are doing. If you see someone who sees beyond the silly things you might do, then that’s a partner. But a wife – anyone can have a wife,” he explained.

In a personal revelation, J Blessing revealed that he has recently started seeing someone who he believes embodies the qualities of a true partner.

“For me, I have very soon started to see that there is a partner and she has also started to see the same,” he noted.

J Blessing and his baby mama, Avril Nyambura, were together for eight years until November 2023 when he announced that the two had decided to go their separate ways.

He wrote: “Avril and I have agreed that we should both stay away from each other to prevent such incidents from happening again.

He also addressed the assault allegations by confirming that one of the circulating photos of Avril with a bruised face was indeed from an “altercation” that occurred a year ago.

He said: “We had a physical altercation where we both got hurt and that day I immediately took her to the hospital. I take full responsibility for that moment of weakness. One of the pictures she posted is from that incident.”
