Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga was for the better of March 27, 2023, been involved in running battles with the Police as he led his supporters in protest.

Mr Odinga headed to Kawangware, a Nairobi suburb, where he addressed and moved around with thousands of his supporters.

He stressed that President William Ruto has to work towards bringing down the cost of living.

“We in Azimio are saying the cost of living must come down. By this, I mean the price of maize flour, sugar, and fuel. Are you in agreement?” he posed.

Mr Odinga, who finished second to President Ruto in the August 2022 polls, has vowed not to relent on his cause until the ultimatums are met.

“We also want the (election) server to be opened.”

Mr Odinga is accompanied by Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua who was his running mate in the August 2022 polls. Also in the entourage is Wiper Party ticket Kalonzo Musyoka, George Wajackoyah of Roots Party, Eugene Wamalwa (DAP-K).

The protests were anything but peaceful, as Mr Odinga’s supporters engaged police officers in running battles in some of the Azimio strongholds in Nairobi, in the morning.

A contingent of police officers had been deployed to beef up security.

Yesterday, Inspector General of Police, IG Japhet Komme termed the protests illegal.

Responding to Mr Koome, Odinga dared the police boss to arrest him instead of sending his juniors.

He also stressed that the protests will be peaceful while adding that he has a constitutional right to demonstrate.

Mr Odinga has further announced he will be holding protests every Monday and Thursday up until the moment President Ruto will agree to his demands.

But President Ruto has described Mr Odinga as an economic terrorist and accused him of sabotaging the businesses of several traders through protests. The Head of State also says he will not be intimidated into accommodating Mr Odinga in his government through the protests.
