By Nyaboga KiageThe mother of Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Governor Dr Patrick Njoroge has died.
Nairobi News understands that Mrs Mary Agnes Njambi, who is also the mother of Catholic Archbishop Anthony Muheria, died on Monday evening, 15 May 2023.
Mrs Njambi was receiving treatment at Nairobi Hospital, where she had been admitted for some time.
The family, without disclosing what ailed the mother, said she had been ill for a long time.
“She was outstanding in her courage and diligence in teaching her children. May God rest her soul in eternal peace,” the family said.
Mrs Mary, who was married to Mr Thomas Ngugi, is a well-known teacher who had a lucrative career in the education sector.
She brought up her children with strict Catholic rules and was also a lay Catholic leader and community mobiliser.
Meanwhile, President Dr William Ruto on Monday, 15 May 2023, nominated Dr Njoroge’s replacement at the helm of CBK.
In a statement issued by Public Service Chief Felix Koskei, former Treasury Principal Secretary Kamau Thugge was appointed to the position.

Dr Njoroge is expected to retire soon, having served in the position since June 2015.
“Mr Thugge’s appointment followed a competitive recruitment process conducted by the Public Service Commission,” said Mr Koskei.
The former PS is currently a senior advisor and head of fiscal and budget policy in the Office of the President. He is also a member of President Ruto’s economic council.
Mr Thugge faced corruption charges alongside former Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich.
He was accused of conspiracy to commit economic crimes, undue advantage, abuse of office, financial misconduct, engaging in a project without prior planning, and failure to comply with rules and regulations relating to the management of public finances.
The economist was accused alongside Rotich of inflating a commercial loan for the construction of the Kimwarer and Arror dams in the Kerio Valley by Ksh.17 billion.
However, Thugge’s charges were dropped by Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji in 2021 and he was made a state witness against Rotich in the scandals.
