RIP! Dedan Kimathi’s wife Mukami is dead
By Elizabeth NgigiFreedom fighter Mukami Kimathi, wife of the late Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi, has died.
Mukami died on Thursday, 4 May 2023, at 11 pm while receiving treatment at Nairobi Hospital.
She was brought to the hospital during the night with breathing difficulties.
Her family attributed her death to old age. The body is at Lee Funeral Home.
She died at the age of 96.

While confirming her death, her daughter Everlyne Kimathi said it was her wish that her husband’s body be released from Kamiti Prison and buried elsewhere by the state.
She will be buried at her home in Njambini.
During the struggle for independence, Mukami was one of the Mau Mau freedom fighters detained at Kamiti Maximum Prison.
Before her death, Mukami received financial assistance from President William Ruto’s administration to settle a hospital bill of Ksh1.3 million.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua announced the aid during a visit to Mukami at a hospital in Nairobi.

The DP thanked President Ruto for his assistance to Mukami and her family, describing him as a true friend of the people.
“Thank you President William Ruto for coming to the aid of Mukami Kimathi and her family. You are a true and genuine friend of our people,” the DP wrote.
DP Gachagua is expected to address the media at Lee Funeral Home this morning following Mukami’s death.
