Ruto appoints Ex-CS Henry Rotich Senior Advisor
By Mercy SimiyuPresident William Ruto has appointed Henry Rotich as the Senior Advisor on Fiscal Affairs and Budget Policy.
Rotich previously served as the Treasury Cabinet Secretary during former president Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy William Ruto’s regime.
Rotich’s appointment was made public vide a letter from Felix Koskei, the Head of the Public Service.
The ex-CS’s tenure at the Central Bank was however hampered by controversy. He was infamously relieved of his duties in January 2020 after facing economic crime charges related to the supposed loss of cash in the construction of the Arror and Kimwarer dams.
President Ruto defended him at the time, insisting no cash was lost during the transactions between the Kenyan government and Italian contractor.
The case dragged on for some time and in 2024, Rotich and eight others were acquitted in the scam that reportedly entailed Sh63 billion.
In her ruling, the magistrate accused the prosecution of failing to lead the case.
The court stated that there was no evidence tabled in court to show that Rotich and his co-accused had failed to follow procurement laws in the case.
Rotich welcomed his acquittal, saying the ‘devil has been ashamed’.
Roitch is the latest high-profile government official to be acquitted from court since President Ruto assumed office.
Others include former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko and 16 others who was recently set free in a Sh367 million graft case against him.
Gender and Culture CS Aisha Jumwa also had murder and corruption charges against him dropped by Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Renson Ingonga.
The CS was battling accusations of embezzling Constituency Development Fund (CDF) charges, and ion relation to the murder of a Gumbao Jola, a 48-year old, which reportedly occurred at a campaign rally.
