The music world has been thrown into mourning following the death of John Izungu Mohamed, a founding member of the iconic Safari Sounds band.

The deceased was the saxophonist of the Mombasa-based band.

The news of his death was confirmed by John Katana, chairman of the Kenya Musicians Union, in a press statement.

Mr Katana said the union was deeply saddened by Izungu’s death.

He described the deceased as a talented musician whose contributions to the music industry will be sorely missed.

“As the music community mourns the loss of one of their own, they honour John’s legacy and the indelible mark he left on the industry,” Katana said.

The late Izungu was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2013.

May his soul rest in peace.
