For those who may not fully grasp the humor in the comments, the late former First Lady Lucy Kibaki once famously urged her husband, the late President Mwai Kibaki, to publicly declare that he had only one wife—her.
In January 2003, President Mwai Kibaki held a press conference at State House, Nairobi, to address the nation, in what was considered a relatively common occurrence.
Standing beside him was the ever-serious First Lady, a familiar sight.
However, what set this particular press conference apart was the unexpected message he delivered to the nation. Extending his right hand toward her, he declared:
“This is my wife Lucy, and I want to emphasize something that I hope you will cherish and keep in your hearts forever.”
During this address, President Kibaki unequivocally stated:
“I am a married man, and I have only one beloved wife, a fact known to everyone in Kenya.” While the context may have appeared unusual, it was not unprecedented for President Kibaki to take such a public stance to assert that he was married to only one woman—Lucy Muthoni Kibaki.

The press conference took place during a time when allegations were circulating about the late president’s alleged second marriage, making Lucy’s demand for a public declaration.
Lucy Kibaki passed on at a London hospital in 2016 after a long illness.
