American stand-up comedian and actor Dave Chappelle stunned Kenyan fans when he announced that he would perform a sold-out show in Nairobi.

The surprise event left many scrambling for tickets, which sold out within two hours.

Tickets retailed at Ksh7,000.

Despite initial disbelief that the comedy genius would perform in Kenya, those lucky enough to secure tickets were not disappointed.

His arrival was private, and unlike most celebrities who choose to spend their time in Nairobi, Chappelle stayed at the luxurious Angama Mara Lodge in the world-famous Maasai Mara National Reserve.

He was visiting Kenya with his wife and eldest son.

The Louis Leakey Auditorium was buzzing with anticipation on the night of the show.

The 300-seat venue was packed to the rafters.

Kenyan creator Ribia Entertainment attended the show and shared his experience with Chappelle.

“It was amazing when he came on stage. He noticed me, and during his performance, he asked me what I was drinking. I told him water. So I decided to offer him a Whitecap. I bought him one, and he loved it. We were co-headlining. It was almost two hours of awesomeness as he talked about everything – President Biden, Trump, LGBTQ issues, and his experience at P. Diddy’s house. This guy, Dave, is hilarious,” Ribia said.

Ribia also talked about how comedians Eric Lu Savali and Ciru Mwangi cracked ribs.

Showbiz legends like Shaffie Weru also attended the show.

There was a strict security check at the gate, which included confiscation of phones and other recording devices.

The phone ban ensured everyone was engaged.

His presence and humour left an indelible mark on those in attendance.

The day after the show, Chappelle was spotted having lunch at the iconic Carnivore Restaurant before flying to Kigali, Rwanda, for another series of performances.

Before leaving, Ribia said Chappelle had promised his Kenyan fans that he would return in November.
