Starlets to meet First Lady after seeing off Botswana

The national women football team is primed to share a session with First lady Margaret Kenyatta next week.

The Harambee Starlets are still basking in the glory of eliminating Botswana in the second round of the Olympic Games qualifiers over the weekend.

“Word has it that the First Lady is interested in meeting with the girls, so we are awaiting formal communication” a source close to the team told Nairobi News.

President Kenyatta has in the past hosted luncheons at State House for various men teams including the national football team, KPL Champions Gor Mahia and domestic Cup holders Sofapaka FC.

The Starlets were on Monday hosted to a luncheon by Football Kenya Federation.

“I don’t know much about women football, but am encouraged by your performances considering you are a very young team. South Africa will offer a much sterner test in the coming games,” Harambee Stars coach Bobby Williamson said.

The Federation also announced an increase in allowances for the women’s team to match that of the men’s senior team.

The Starlets eliminated Botswana on away goals rule following a 2-2 aggregate draw over the past week.
