Street preacher shouts down Cabinet Secretary, causing security scare
By SULEIMAN MBATIAH, @sirmbatiah smbatiah@ke.nationemdia.comThere was a security scare at a function presided over by Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki in Nakuru on Wednesday after a street preacher stormed it and interrupted proceedings.
The CS was addressing journalists after issuing cheques to various youth and women groups at Nyayo gardens when the woman started yelling and denouncing the youth and women fund initiative.
The woman, a self-proclaimed prophet and street preacher regularly seen near the Ambassador Hotel in Nairobi, shouted that the disbursement of the cheques was in vain as the world was coming to an end.
The preacher, Ms Jemimah Njeri, had earlier approached Nakuru sub-county Administration Police Commander John Wachira at the venue seeking to be introduced to County Commander Joshua Nkanatha.
“County Commander wenyu hapa ni nani?” asked Ms Njeri.
She said that she wanted to have a conversation with him on matters of national security.
CRITICIZING JUBILEE
She then started yelling and criticizing the Jubilee government on its monetary initiatives to support the youth, women and the elderly.
“Nataka kukuambia hivi madam CS. Hii kazi unayofanya ni zero kama watu hawata repent kwa yale waliyomtendea Moi,” she said amid jeers from women who had turned up.
She reached for her red-colored handbag and that’s when police and the CS’s bodyguards closed in on her.
In the ensuing melee, she shouted that Kenya was headed to an electioneering year and blood would be shed across the country unless a cleansing ceremony is carried out.
CS Kariuki had to cut short her interview as her handlers and security detail threw a cordon around her. Other invited guests left their seats for safety.
The preacher was escorted out of the recreational park as angry women bade for her blood.
“God had sent me with eleven confidential letters for President Uhuru and his ministers as well as a message to Kenyans,” she shouted.
