The Kenya National Highways Authority (Kenha) on Saturday temporarily closed Kenyatta Avenue at the Uhuru Highway roundabout.

Kenha Director General Kung’u Ndung’u said in a public notice that the closure will allow for maintenance works and that motorists will have to use alternative routes.

Due to the closure, Kenha advised all motorists accessing Uhuru Highway from Kenyatta Avenue to use University Way, Utalii Street, Posta Road, City Hall Way, Harambee Avenue and Haile Sellasie Avenue.

Kenha said the section under maintenance will be closed until midnight on Sunday.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (Kenha) wishes to inform the public that there will be a temporary closure of Kenyatta Avenue at the Uhuru Highway roundabout to allow for highway maintenance works on this section,” Ndung’u said.

“All motorists accessing Uhuru Highway from Kenyatta Avenue will use alternative routes such as University Way, Utalii Street, Posta Road, City Hall Way, Harambee Avenue and Haile Sellasie Avenue,” he advised.

Kenha has urged motorists using the road to approach the affected section with caution.

The closure coincided with that of a section of Nairobi’s Lang’ata Road which is also scheduled for maintenance works this weekend.

In a notice, Kenha said the road will be closed between the T-Mall roundabout and the Madaraka Roundabout from 6 am to 8 pm and will affect the city-bound section of the service lane.

Commenting on the closure, Kenha DG Ndung’u urged motorists to exercise caution and obey signs when using the route.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (Kenha) wishes to inform the public that a section of Langata Road along the service lane (Nyayo Stadium bound lane) between T-Mall roundabout and Madaraka roundabout will be closed,” said Ndung’u.

The authority advised motorists heading towards Madaraka Roundabout from Raila Odinga Way (Mbagathi Way), Mai Mahiu Road and Lang’ata Road to take the Ole Sangale link or turn at T-Mall Roundabout and proceed to the U-turn just after the Wilson Airport exit and take the fly-over to Madaraka.

In December 2023, the authority, which is an autonomous road agency mandated to manage, develop, rehabilitate and maintain national roads, temporarily closed five roundabouts along the Uhuru Highway.

The roundabouts – Nyayo Stadium, Bunyala, Haile Selassie Avenue, Kenyatta Avenue, and University Way – were closed from December 28 until January 1, 2024.

The closure was to facilitate essential road maintenance works along the said stretches.
