FKF youth committee chairman Chris Amimo said the federation’s head office spearheaded the initiative to start a youth league in all the sub-counties.
“We started in Nairobi last month, today we are in Nakuru and are expected to move to Mombasa in the coming days,” said the football official, who explained that the main objective of the league is to expose talented youngsters to competitive football at a tender age.
“The tradition has been that players in their prime get involved in competitive leagues, making it difficult for the country to become competitive,” said Amimo.
On his part, Francis Oliele, FKF Nakuru County chairman, said they were committed to developing talent across the country.
“Basically, today marked the start of the Nakuru County tournament,” he said.
He expressed satisfaction with the games played, pointing out the immensely talented youngsters from Karagita.
Sanctuary Youth Football Academy (SYFA) official Douglas Omendo welcomed the federation’s move, describing it as “the right way to go”.
The tournament was launched in line with FKF’s commitment to identifying, nurturing and showcasing talent.
