Tanzanian stars dominate East Africa YouTube streams in March
By Freya WanjikuTanzanian artists were the most streamed musicians on YouTube in the last week of March. According to data that ranked East African musicians on the platform, Tanzanians had scooped eight positions out of ten.
Though Kenyan artists were not on the list, the two other positions were held on by Nigerians.

Between March 24, 2023 to March 30, 2023, Tanzanian bongo flava artist Diamond Platnumz topped the list with over 2.7 million views.
Harmonize followed him with 2.3 million views, then Rayvanny at 1.3 million views. Zuchu came in fourth position with over 1.29m views and was the first female East African songbird on the list.
Jay Melody was in the fifth position with over 1.24m views and was closely followed by Arya Star from Nigeria at 1.19m views.
From Tanzania again, Alikiba and JD Muliki came in seven and eighth positions, respectively with 1.04m and 1.01m views.
Tiwa Savage was in the ninth position with 940,373 views, while Mbosso had 923,817 views.

Tanzania and Nigeria have been dominating the music industry, with each being praised for incorporating their native languages in their song.
While their music is good, most Tanzanian bongo artists have been slammed with relationship dramas that have leaked online.
Though some do not shy from even composing songs out of their drama, Tanzanians have been hailed for taking the opportunity, whether good or bad and running with it.
Case in point, in almost all of Diamond’s relationships, he has released a song praising the woman he is seeing. He sang for Zari, and when they broke up, he still sang about breaking her heart in the hit single, Sikomi.
Tanzania’s shining music star has attracted Kenyan self-proclaimed president of comedy to call out Kenyan artists for not attracting showbiz in their songs, affecting their performance.
His utterances have attracted varying opinions from Kenyans even as they have a hard landing on some musicians.
