Is this the thief who stole Governor Kingi’s bag at Italy Airport?
By NAHASHON MUSUNGUKilifi Governor Amason Kingi is expected in the country this weekend after receiving a temporary travel document.
This follows a week of uncertainty where the senior politician from the Coast was stranded in Italy for over a week after losing his passports to a thief at the airport.
Nairobi News understands Kingi discovered he had lost his passport and other travel luggage upon arrival in Rome for a working trip on November 17.
STOLEN PASSPORTS
The setback has forced him to miss a number of key functions at home, including the launch of Gold Coastguard services in Mombasa on November 19, an event President Uhuru Kenyatta was the chief guest.
“It is surprising that even in this day and age, Kingi has lost his passport and your Excellency that is why he was not able to be with us,” said Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho during the event.
SUSPECTED THIEF
Kingi has since confirmed the incident in an interview with the media, stating; “My briefcase containing my two passports was stolen upon arrival at the airport in Italy on November 17 for the Hyper-Power meeting. I had to report the theft to the airport police and our embassy in Rome,” he said.
“I am glad the embassy in Rome processed my emergency travel documents. There is therefore no cause for alarm as everything is now fine.”
And in a related development, security authorities in Italy have released pictures of a man who, they believe took Kingi’s luggage. The unidentified white man is seen carrying a black bag at an unknown place.
