Tragic death of Egerton University student during AFCON game raises questions

The news of Francis’s demise has sent shockwaves through his family, friends, and classmates.
According to his father, Lazarus Pepela, the family was informed about Francis’s death with conflicting details surrounding the circumstances leading to the tragedy.
Francis was a dedicated student pursuing journalism at Egerton University, and his sudden departure has left the university community in grief.

A probe has been initiated to unravel the mystery behind his death, with authorities working to determine the exact cause.
One of Francis’s close friends and deskmate in primary school, Yvonne Mumbasu, took to social media to express her sorrow.
She wrote, “Death is so cruel..Francis Pepela, my all-time best friend, why this early..the good memories from class one to class seven.. ukaamua utoke sai mbona tuu why this early.. anyway my heartfelt condolences to Kanduyi DEB fraternity for losing such a champ… Return If Possible Pepela.”
Telewa Job, another friend and former deskmate from Friends Bukembe Boys High School, added, “Rest in peace my desky at Friends Bukembe boys high school….till we meet Pepela.”
The online tributes poured in from friends, family, and acquaintances, reflecting the impact Francis had on those around him.
Brafin Orori, a Facebook user, shared, “A 3rd-year comrade at Egerton University who was killed at Bungoma was just my innermost friend ever in the university. Francis Pepela gone too soon. Shine on, bro.”
