Ulinzi Stars official drew gun in self defence during KPL match
By NAIROBI NEWS REPORTERA football administrator drew out his firearm in self defence during a Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match between AFC Leopards and Ulinzi Stars in Kakamega county.
This official attached to army side Ulinzi Stars was pictured holding the firearm with his finger on the trigger at the Mumias Sports Complex.
He was flanked by Ulinzi Stars team manager Joe Birgen who was spotted gesturing towards the fans who had attended the match.
The match was abandoned with 12 minutes remaining after AFC Leopards technical bench, officials, stewards and fans stormed the pitch to protest the referee’s decision to award Ulinzi Stars a second penalty of the game.
Ulinzi Stars is a top flight team composed of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers.
This was the second KPL match to be marred by crowd trouble inside a week. The fixture between Gor Mahia and Tusker FC also turned chaotic after K’Ogalo fans protested a penalty awarded to the brewers.
