Under-fire Kiambu governor Kimani Wamatangi puts land grabbers on notice
By Mercy SimiyuUnder fire Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has rallied behind President William Ruto’s ‘Mambo ni Matatu’ slogan while vowing to take decisive action against those who have illicitly acquired public land.
In a public address on September 11, 2023, the county boss passionately addressed the issue of land grabbing that he says has plagued the County for years.
He explained the situation is so dire that there is no room for the construction of public toilets or any other facilities when all available land has been seized by land grabbers.
“There is no place where one can build a public toilet; all the land has been grabbed,” Governor Wamatangi declared, expressing his determination to put an end to this rampant issue.
“To anyone attempting to acquire public land, I will not approve that, and action will be taken,” he firmly stated. “I am with the President on this, either give it back or you move out. Well, all are aware of the last option,” he added, underlining the seriousness of the matter.
Governor Wamatangi went a step further in his commitment to resolving this crisis, revealing he will soon publish a public notice in a local newspaper.
The notice will span approximately seven pages and will list over 3,000 properties in Kiambu, complete with their respective title deeds and plot numbers.
He urged all property owners in the county to come forward and present their valid land certificates for verification.
This unprecedented move is expected to shed light on the extent of land grabbing within Kiambu County, helping identify those who have unlawfully acquired public land. It also sends a clear message that the Governor is committed to transparency and accountability when it comes to land ownership.
The “Mambo ni Matatu” campaign, championed by the President and now supported by Governor Wamatangi, signifies a unified front against land grabbers and the corrupt, with a determination to reclaim reclaim stolen public possesions.
The residents of the county are eagerly awaiting the publication of the public notice, hoping that it will mark the beginning of a new era in the fight against land grabbing and the restoration of their rightful public spaces.
Wamatangi has been on the spotlight in recent times following his fallout with Members of the County Assembly (MCA) who accuse him of high handedness and abuse of office.
