Veteran journalist Joshua Arap Sang, has resigned from Mediamax Network owned Emoo FM. Mr Sang made the announcement of his exit from the radio station in a statement on Friday.

“Time to say goodbye. To all my fans, colleagues and bosses. Today is my last day working as a radio broadcaster. It is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to you,” he said.

Mr Sang said he will miss working with everyone he has ever engaged with.

“It has been a journey of 24 years which began in Sayare FM in 1999, then Biblia Husema in 2003, Kass FM in 2005 and then it finally ended at Emoo FM of Mediamax,” he said.

However, the radio journalist did not mention his next move.

Mr Sang became a household name after the 2007 General Election, when former prosecutor of the International Criminal Court Luis Moreno Ocampo named him among six Kenyans suspected to have masterminded the 2007/2008 post-election violence that left 1,133 people dead.

Alongside Mr Sang, the other suspects on the list were Mr Uhuru Kenyatta and Mr William Ruto, who would eventually win the presidency in the 2013 General Election. Also in the list was former head of the civil service Francis Muthaura, former police commissioner Hussein Ali and former Tinderet MP Henry Kosgey.

All six would appear before the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands, but have all since been acquitted. After their respective cases collapsed, Mr Kenyatta went on to serve two terms as the President of the Republics of Kenya and handed over the reins of power to President Ruto last year.

Meanwhile, Mr Sang resumed his radio job. He joined Mediamax in 2019 and just after a month he was promoted to the deputy head of radio at the station.

In November last year, he was among the candidates for the East African Legislative Assembly legislators. Mr Sang has been listed among 24 other Kenya Kwanza nominees who want to seat at the regional assembly but he didn’t make the final cut.
