Nairobi gubernatorial candidate Mike Sonko has sensationally claimed he was approached by opposition leader Raila Odinga to replace Evans Kidero as National Super Alliance’s candidate in the August elections.

Senator Sonko also alleged he recorded Mr Odinga’s conversation both on audio and video.

“I just don’t want to make those recordings public because I respect Raila so much and I’m also related to Kalonzo Musyoka. He is my elder brother,” Mr Sonko explained.

He made the remarks on Sunday during a campaign tour.

Senator Sonko was responding to Mr Odinga’s sentiments earlier this week to the effect that the outgoing Nairobi Senator is not fit to govern the capital.

Mr Odinga had vowed to resign if elected president and Mike Sonko is the governor of Nairobi county.

Addressing a  campaign rally in the Eastern parts of Nairobi, Mr Odinga called for the election of Nasa candidates in Nairobi even as he seeks the country’s top seat.

Senator Sonko is battling incumbent governor Dr Evans Kidero and independent candidates Miguna Miguna and Peter Kenneth among others for the capital’s gubernatorial post.
