Born and and raised in New York, Wanjira Longauer Mbuthia, has been entertaining Kenyans every mid-morning on her show The Fuse on Capital FM.

Wanjira, who says she manages her time to do what she really loves, spoke to Nairobi News about her life, career and journeys.

1. Before radio what were you doing? – I was living in New York, which is where I come from. I was a student for most of that time and it was not long after I left studying, that I decided to move to Nairobi and see what it had to offer me. I moved here in April of 2014.

2. What has changed since you relocated? – Wow, what hasn’t changed? Everything, my whole life. Everything just snowballed in to such a beautiful way so quickly and as someone who works as a creative you are always worried when moving to a new environment; am I going to find work, am I going to get hired. As human beings we all have our insecurities.

3. What does a perfect day look like to you? – A perfect day can really vary, depends on what I’m looking for. But on top of my head right now is waking up on a beach and having some freshly squeezed juice, some fresh breakfast, a good swim in the ocean, catching rays – that’s why I don’t miss winter – and either being in solitude or surrounded by a few people, who can carry a good conversation. That’s probably my ideal day. Then a nice lunch, unwind, more swimming.

4. Best and worst date and how will someone get your personal attention? – Worst date was this guy who was basically proposing to me the entire time and insisting that we would be married. I was only 19 and I thought he was crazy. The best date will always be somebody just unveiling themselves, looking genuinely interested and not setting their own agenda. Still single at the moment, make me laugh and then maybe we can kick it. To me that has always been the best date.

5. What has been the weirdest thing that a fan has ever done to you? – Somebody on social media told me they wanted to smear me in green and spank me like a dirty avocado. I’ve had people who show up at our studio and lie that I was expecting them, yet they turned out to be creeps. One day a guy showed up and he tried to explain to me that we should be together. But for the most part, people here are really cool. On the streets they will just shout out my name and the station I work for.

6. What’s your style? – It really depends on the day. I tend to be on the go and rushing a lot because I’m doing twenty thousand things. So I tend to be in comfy wear. I call it my boho chic, which I’m not wearing today, which is more of a sporty look. But I love professional, sleek, cute office wear. I love glamour, street style, urban… I love everything.

7. Any regrets you’ve had in life? – I’ve never regretted anything per se because I always look for solutions to nasty situations. I really do not believe in do overs because that’s totally impossible and illogical to me. So many people did not want me to move here and that turned out to be awesome. So for me I think you really have to keep on keeping on. That’s literally what life’s all about.
