Arrest warrant for MP charged with assaulting Helicopter preacher

Mwingi Central MP Joe Mutambu risks arrest for skipping court in a case he is charged with assaulting preacher Thomas Wahome of the Helicopter of Christ Church.

Kibera principal magistrate Benard Ochoi on Wednesday granted an application by the prosecution and issued a warrant of arrest for the legislator who is out on Sh20, 000 cash bail.

Mr Mutambu has denied assaulting the city preacher and causing him bodily harm during an incident that allegedly occurred on September 21 2015 at the MP’s office located along Muchai drive in Kilimani area.

The case was listed for hearing on Wednesday but Mr Mutambu was not in court. His lawyers were also not present.

The prosecution also indicated that the charges facing the MP might be amended.

Mr Mutambu has another assault case pending before a Kitui court where he is accused of squeezing the private parts of an aide to Governor Julius Malombe.

In the Kibera case, Mr Wahome claims that he had gone to the lawmaker’s office to reclaim a lorry that he had leased to him.

“On reaching there in the company of two police men, the MP attacked me. I sustained injuries and sought treatment. Later I was issued with a P3 form,” Mr Wahome told the court when he testified early this year.

The case will be mentioned on July 18 for further directions.
