Arsenal fans elated at ‘kind’ Champions League draw

Arsenal fans on social media were united in celebrations over what they considered a “kind” draw in the UEFA Champions League round of 16.

Supporters of the other English sides, Manchester City and Chelsea, seem to acknowledge the tough task of upstaging their respective Spanish and French opposition to get through to the quarter finals.

Arsene Wenger’s charges, who have been eliminated at this stage of the competition for the past three seasons, will host the French manager’s former employer Monaco in the first of the two-legged affair in February.

Last season’s semi finalists Chelsea will have to go past PSG in a repeat of last year’s quarter finals, for a place in the last eight.

Manchester City seem to have the toughest draw of the English lot on paper, with a tie against Barcelona lined up.

In other contests, defending champions Real Madrid look set to sail through to the quarters at the expense of Schalke 04, while other bigwigs Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and Porto are also primed to qualify.

FULL DRAW:

Monaco v Arsenal

PSG v Chelsea

Bayer Leverkusen v Atletico Madrid

Schalke 04 v Real Madrid

Manchester City v Barcelona

Shaktar Donetsk v Bayern Munich

FC Basel v Porto

Juventus v Borussia Dortmund
