Athletics agent Rosa released on a Sh500k bond, passport detained
Italian athletics agent Federico Rosa was on Monday on Sh500,000 bond with two Kenyan sureties.
The Kibera court however declined to release Mr Rosa’s passport to allow him travel to Rio de Janeiro for the Olympics.
Mr Rosa had applied for the release of his passport, arguing that his presence is required in the Olympics and that that performance of athletes he manages will be put in disarray if he does not travel.
But the court ruled that the management of activities relating to the Olympics is the mandate of National Olympics committee and Athletics Kenya.
The court said that Mr Rosa Court did not provide any documents to prove that he actually manages some athletes participating in the Rio Olympics.
Mr Rosa has been charged with six counts related to doping and ruining the reputations of two Kenyan athletes.
Rosa, a director with athletics management company Gabrielle Rosa and Associati, is the first international sports agent to be charged under Kenya’s new anti-doping laws.
He had been under investigation for two weeks and is accused of conspiring with other persons to injure the reputation of 2001 IAAF World Youth Championships finalist Elijah Kiprono Boit and three-time Boston Marathon winner Rita Jeptoo by administering prohibited substances.
