Ayub Savula welcomes Musalia Mudavadi’s new role in Ruto’s government

Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula has backed Premier Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi’s new role in government.

In an interview with Nairobi News, Savula says the new roles handed to Mudavadi by President William Ruto will help bring development to Western Kenya.

“We are happy and proud of Mudavadi. The Luhya nation has something to bargain with and I’m certain the fruits of this will soon be felt across Western Kenya,” explained Savula, a seasoned politician.

Among the responsibilities handed to Mudavadi by President Ruto include chairing and coordinating National Government legislative agenda, assisting the President and deputy president to coordinate, supervise ministries and departments, overseeing the implementation of national government policies, programs and projects, chairing principle secretaries’ committees, among others.

Under the Executive Order 1 of 2023, the Head of State also mandated Mudavadi to oversee a docket namely Government Delivery Services which ostensibly replaces the Presidential Delivery Unit.

Analysts argue these new roles could enhance political competition between Mudavadi and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

DP Gachagua has meanwhile been tasked with the oversight of the coffee sector reforms in addition to functions domiciled in the Office of the Deputy President.

Besides Mudavadi, Moses Wetangula is the other senior politician from Western Kenya in President Ruto’s government.

He’s currently serving as the National Assembly Speaker.

Savula has promised to back Mudavadi despite breaking ranks with him to support Raila Odinga in the run up to the August 2022 polls.
