Even Baba can’t find cheap unga on Fathers Day

Opposition leader Raila Odinga’s search for maize flour while shopping in Nairobi on Sunday ended in disappointment.

At the end of it all, the National Super Alliance (Nasa) presidential candidate was forced to retreat to his social media pages, and just like any other ordinary Kenyan, moan the “collapse of our economy”.

In a brief message on his Facebook page, Mr Odinga claimed to have accompanied his son Raila Junior to shop for his grandson, only to encounter empty shelves at the supermarkets during his search for some precious commodities.

EMPTY SHELVES

“Today when I accompanied my son Raila Junior to shop for my grandson, I thought deeply about how the collapse of our economy has frustrated the efforts of many fathers who cannot afford to put food on the table because of the cost and also unavailability,” Odinga said.

In some of the photos shared, Mr Odinga and his son are seen staring at empty maize flour shelves in the supermarket.

Kenya is currently facing a food shortage, a situation that has led to the significant increase of commodities like maize flour – which is used to produce the country’s most consumed foodstuff – milk, and sugar.
