Babu Owino boost with fresh appointment at Weldios University
Embakasi East lawmaker Paul Ongili Owino, famously referred to as Babu Owino, has earned nomination to join the Governing Board of Weldios University.
Weldios is one of the leading Universities in West Africa, located in Port Novo and Cotonou, Benin.
The nomination to join the institution’s Board comes three months after Mr Babu Owino was conferred an Honorary Doctorate Degree by the African University.
In a letter seen by Nairobi News, Weldios University states that the invitation is a result of the lawmaker’s contribution to the well-being of the institution over time.
“This honorary recommendation and call to serve is sequel to your excellence, panache, and dexterity of contribution to the well-being of the institution over time, coupled with your strength of character, integrity, and track record of well meaning contributions to society and Africa at large,” reads the letter dated February 7, 2024, signed by Weldios University Registrar and the Selection Board Chair, Dr Ugo Magnus Kel.
It further adds, “We await further correspondence acknowledging and accepting the invitation. Accept assurance of our highest esteem”.
In his response, the outspoken MP, a close ally of ODM leader Mr Raila Odinga, expressed his gratitude for being appointed to join the University’s Governing Board.
The second-term lawmaker also acknowledged the recognition of the Honorary Doctorate Degree (PhD Honoris Causa) in Political Leadership conferred upon him by the university in November 2023.
“I stand ever ready to meet, in every possible God-enabled way, those expectations. It is therefore another honor to receive the honorary recommendation and a call to serve the prestigious Weldios University as a member of the Governing Board,” Mr Babu Owino stated in a letter he shared with Nairobi News on Friday, February 9, 2024.
“I believe that we live to serve society, humanity, and the underserved. In this regard, I admire the institution’s commitment, particularly to the underserved continent of Africa and its people. It is a commitment I will cherish every opportunity to contribute to. Therefore, I, Dr Babu Owino Paul Ongili, Member of Parliament for Embakasi East Constituency in Nairobi, Kenya, acknowledge your letter and confirm readiness to join the Governing Board of Weldios University,” explained the MP.
Past studies by local survey researchers list Mr Babu Owino among the best-performing lawmakers in the country.
Since his time at the University of Nairobi (UoN) as the students’ leader, he dedicated himself to fighting for the learners’ rights, a commitment he has extended to his political career for his constituents.
