KOT can’t agree on this Bamburi Cement security awareness notice

A notice by a cement manufacturing company alerting its staff on safety precautions to observe during the election date has drawn mixed reaction from netizens.

Some social media users have accused Bamburi Cement of causing unnecessary panic to the public.

The security notice, titled ‘Election Security Awareness’, outlined step by step safety initiatives their staff should take to mitigate any risk in case of violence on August 8th.

Some of the safety measures highlighted on the notice include advance shopping and stocking of food essentials, purchase spare scratch cards at least three weeks in advance and investing in solar chargers.

The notice also gave tips on where to store vital  documents.

Bamburi Cement said that the notice was only meant for its staff.

To be fair, though, most companies including the United Nations and other blue chip companies normally issue such advisories to their staff.

“As a leading building materials company in the region, health and safety is at the center of everything we do, from the daily routines in our plants to our customers’ projects and our actions in our neighboring communities. As such, we observe and benchmark against global best practices and that includes always putting our employees’ welfare first,” read part of the statement.

Below are some of the reactions from the social media community.
