Barbie actor Ryan Gosling disappointed over Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig’s Oscar snub

As the excitement builds for the 96th Academy Awards, actor Ryan Gosling, nominated for Actor in a Supporting Role for his portrayal of Ken in “Barbie,” has released a heartfelt statement expressing his disappointment over the omission of co-stars Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig from the nominations list.

In the statement, Gosling reflects on the integral roles played by Robbie and Gerwig in the success of “Barbie.”

He states, “There is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie… No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit, and genius.”

The nominations for the Actor in a Supporting Role category include Sterling K. Brown for “American Fiction,” Robert De Niro for “Killers of the Flower Moon,” Robert Downey Jr. for “Oppenheimer,” and Ryan Gosling for “Barbie.”

Meanwhile, America Ferrera, another key figure in the “Barbie” cast, received a nomination for Actress in a Supporting Role.

Ferrera competes in the category alongside Emily Blunt for “Oppenheimer,” Danielle Brooks for “The Color Purple,” Jodie Foster for “Nyad,” and Da’Vine Joy Randolph for “The Holdovers.”

Gosling’s statement continues, “I am extremely honored to be nominated by my colleagues alongside such remarkable artists in a year of so many great films. And I never thought I’d be saying this, but I’m also incredibly honored and proud that it’s for portraying a plastic doll named Ken.”

He expresses disappointment over the absence of Gerwig and Robbie in their respective categories, stating it would be an understatement to say he is disappointed.

Gosling emphasises the significant impact of their work, noting that against all odds, they made audiences laugh, broke hearts, pushed cultural boundaries, and made history.

“To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement. Against all odds with nothing but a couple of soulless scantily clad, and thankfully crotchless dolls, they made us laugh, they broke our hearts, they pushed the culture and they made history. Their work should be recognized along with the other very deserving nominees,” Gosling declares.

In closing, Gosling congratulates America Ferrera and the other talented individuals who contributed to making “Barbie” a groundbreaking film.

The 96th Academy Awards ceremony is set to take place on March 10, promising a night of celebration and recognition for outstanding achievements in the world of cinema.
