Baringo beauty crowned Miss Tourism

Baringo County exploded into celebrations on Sunday after a young woman from the area was crowned Miss Tourism Kenya, beating 46 other contestants.

In Kabarnet town, residents were woken up by hooting boda boda operators following the news from KICC Nairobi that their finalist, Ms Jacqueline Komen, had won the hearts and votes of judges.

The news went viral on social media under the hashtag #thisisBaringo.

“We are only in the news over cattle rustling and insecurity. But now, we have shown them that something good can come out of our county,” said Mr Evans Chumo, a resident.

Ms Komen, who represented Baringo County, battled with contestants from 46 counties after going through three auditions in her home county.

SHOWCASE CULTURE

The county has now planned a heroic welcome for their beauty queen, set for later this week.

According to the patron of the county event, Ms Emmy Cheboi, governors, parliamentarians and other leaders will welcome Miss Tourism.

“The convoy will start at Mogotio and will be received by the county governor and other dignitaries at designated places yet to be decided by the planning committee,” Mrs Cheboi said.

Baringo County Executive in charge of Tourism and Enterprise Development Wesley Keitany said the event would be the biggest in the county.

We also want to use the opportunity to showcase our people’s rich culture and use it to preach peaceful messages,” he said.
