Battle for honours at Zuku finals

The Zuku Basketball League comes to a close this weekend as 16 men and women’s teams battle it out for the national title.

The two-day tournament commences Friday at the USIU Courts before moving to the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani the following day.

The Thika Road-based varsity is been tipped as favourites in both categories.

The women’s team, Flames, will set the ball rolling when they host Egerton University on Friday at 9am.

Flames are yet to lose a game this season in the league, and won the Nairobi Conference last week with a 66-37 drubbing of the University of Nairobi.

The latter will then take on Maseno University City Campus in the men’s category, before USIU Tigers face MKU-Nakuru Campus.

Flames will look to captain Linda Mfuchi and Kenya international Hilda Indasi, who scored 35 points in the Nairobi final, to catapult them to glory.

Indasi said playing in the Premier League is an added advantage to her side, and she believes this will boost them at the weekend.

“The Premier League games are more demanding, and they have given us a great deal of experience, something that will work for us in the nationals. We are well prepared for the challenge,” said Indasi.

She has, however, warned her teammates to be wary of University of Nairobi Dynamites.
