BBC roasted for referring to Uhuru as ‘mourner in chief’

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is the latest broadcaster to be on the receiving end of vitriol for its coverage of the Garissa terrorist attack.

As Kenyans mourn the death of 147 people killed in the attack, the international broadcaster posted a question on the BBC Africa Facebook page in which it refereed to President Uhuru Kenyatta as ‘mourner in chief’.

“Some people in Kenya are wondering where the mourner in chief  President Uhuru Kenyatta is?” the post stated.

This was perceived by social media users as being insensitive to the victims of the massacre and their grieving families.

Last week, another international broadcaster, CNN, goofed when it announced to the world that Nairobi is located in Nigeria.

CNN aired a live telephone conversation with Arnolda Shiundu of Kenya Red Cross from “Nairobi, Nigeria”.
