Blogger Cyprian Nyakundi sentenced for disobeying court in Collymore suit

Blogger Cyprian Nyakundi will spend four months behind bars or pay a fine of Sh 300,000 for continuously disobeying orders of the court.

High Court judge Lucy Njuguna issued the verdict and faulted the blogger for disobedient to the rule of law in a case where Safaricom Chief Executive Officer Bob Collymore and his predecessor Michael Joseph have sued him for defamation.

The judge said that there had been no reason given as to why he had failed to appear in court on several occasions.

She also ruled that the court has an opinion that he has no respect for orders issued.

“The court will not condone deliberate disobedience of its orders and will not shy away from dealing firmly with its proved contemnors,” Lady Justice Njuguna said.

Lady Justice had on December 02, 2016 ruled that the blogger had acted in contempt of court for publishing information about Mr Collymore despite temporary orders stopping him from the same.
