Boda boda operator to be hanged for killing concubine

A boda boda operator has been sentenced to death for cruelly killing his concubine.

The man, 40 year-old Amos Gachie Mwangi,  hit Esther Waceke Maina with a blunt object on the head killing her with a single blow.

He proceeded to behead her and cut off her arms, palms and legs. He loaded the body parts in a paper bag and threw them in a pit latrine in the compound where they were living..

He then packed the torso in a sack and threw it in River Theta. The floating sack was found by women drawing water downstream, who retrieved it and informed the area’s chief.

The incident happened in Murera Location, in Ruiru,  Kiambu County, on May 23, 2012.

Lady Justice Roselyn Korir, in her sentence on Tuesday, described the murder “ as most foul, cruel and heinous.” She said the man deserves no mercy and should “ suffer death for his cruel act.”

“The decomposing body was retrieved and taken to Thika hospital mortuary,” Justice Korir said while sentenced the boda boda operator.

She said police embarked on a search mission to recover the head and other parts.

“Police were told of a stench from the compound of the accused. They demolished the pit latrine and retrieved the head and the palms which had decomposed,” the judge said.

The body of the deceased was identified by her former husband Joseph Wambugu Maina  – whom she had left after they had differed.
