Bodies from River Nyamindi accident yet to be recovered

The bodies of the four people who perished after they saloon vehicle plunged into river Nyamindi in Kirinyaga county have not yet been recovered.

The accident occurred on the early hours of Sunday as the family drove back to Nairobi from Tigania in Meru.

It took police over ten hours to remove the vehicle from under the water, all the time hoping they would recover the bodies of the victims with the retrieval of the car.

Police and the crowd of onlookers were surprised after they found only one body with the other four bodies missing.

An area resident, Davidson Kibunyi, said the rescue mission to recover the bodies from the river has been made difficult by the raging water.

He said the bodies may be recovered downstream at the intake, which supplies water to Mwea irrigation scheme.
