Boinnet: No, my chopper wasn’t shot at in Laikipia
Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has denied reports in a section of the Kenyan media that his helicopter was shot at Sosian farm in Laikipia County on Sunday.
The National Police Service further demanded proof or total retraction from the media houses in question for peddling falsehoods.
“At no time did the Inspector General and his entourage encounter any hostility of whatever kind or an attempt to shoot at the Police helicopter as reported in a section of the media,” Assistant IG, George Kinoti, said in a statement sent to newsrooms.
AMBUSHED
Earlier, media reports had indicated that the area county commander’s vehicle was ambushed on the boundary of Sosian and Suyian farms, while a commercial vehicle was shot at near Kinamba, on the road between Rumuruti and Maralal.
The alleged attacks were linked to suspected Pokot and Samburu herdsmen who have invaded ranches in Laikipia.
The reports also indicated that the attackers made away with a herd of camels during the attack.
According to the reports, Boinnet was inside his chopper when the attackers fired several shots at the aircraft that was taking off from the farm.
