Boni Khalwale lauds Governor Kawira’s marriage after impeachment row

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has lauded Governor Kawira Mwangaza’s marriage after she survived another impeachment against her.

The Meru governor was in the company of her husband Murega Baichu all through the proceedings with Khalwale acknowledging the support he gave her woman.

Attaching a photo of her wedding day, Khalwale posted, “A lesson from the Gov Kawira’s tribulations in Meru. If you are married and you don’t love each other like her and her husband Baichu, basi wewe ni bure kabisa.”

Mwanagza was accused of seven charges including nepotism and unethical practices with documents placed before the senate showing that she misappropriated county resources by using her brother, two sisters, and her husband’s brother to embezzle county funds.

Additionally, she was accused of presenting her relatives as a technical team to travel to China to certify cancer treatment equipment while knowing that they were not medical professionals.

In early September, Governor Mwangaza left tongues wagging after naming a rehabilitated road after her husband. Mwangaza took to social media to share photos of the road connecting Kirung’a to the Muthalankari area and captioned, “Murega Baichu Rd. Hakuna boiling tena.”

The former UDA Vice Chairman Kipruto Arap Kirwa claimed that Mwangaza’s rift with Meru Members of County Assembly (MCAs) was partly because of her husband who provokes them and in turn, they try to punish the governor.

“Listening and following Meru County politics, the gentleman provokes individuals even more than the lady because I am told when he is singing with that guitar of his, he can call them names. So, they want to punish the man but now they must do it through the governor making it a bit complex,” he said.

Armed with his guitar, the couple remained inseparable all through the campaigns, and when other contestants erected billboards, the two stuck together. After the election win, Mr Baichu was named the Meru Youth Service (MYS) patron and Meru Hustler Ambassador with the two positions eliciting debate.
