‘Born again’ MP Mwiti wants his bodyguards to ensure he doesn’t stray

Imenti Central MP Gideon Mwiti, a rape suspect who recently announced that he has seen the light, now wants his bodyguards to guard him from straying.

During a fundraiser at St Anthony’s Catholic Church in Meru town attended by National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, Mwiti started off his speech by belting out a gospel chorus to declare his newfound faith.

Mungu wako atakusimamia, Mungu wako. Mungu wako atakusimamia, Mungu wako. (Your God will support you),” Mwiti sang as the congregation easily backed him up.

As if to approve his faith, Mwiti was given the chance to lead closing prayers after they helped raise close to Sh3 million towards construction of a church building.

After declaring his new Christian faith and resolve to shun all alcohol, Mwiti turned his gun to police officers who serve as bodyguards for MPs.

“I told you to pray for me because I am going to open a Church. I am praying that I will preach the true gospel. Do not ask me about the past because I don’t want to dwell on it,” he said.

GUARD THE BODY

“As I say all this, I want to speak to police officers who are here. I am surprised when I hear an MP has gone somewhere and beaten someone or has been found in someplace at night. Bodyguard means you guard the body. I don’t know whether you understand that English? If the government has employed you to guard the body of Hon Justin Muturi, you should guard it.

“If I have been given a bodyguard round the clock, how can I be in the wrong place?” Mwiti posed.

He continued, “I am putting my bodyguards on notice. My bodyguards are on notice to guard the body that the government is paying you to guard.”

The MP said as a member of parliament he is not ready to live a casual life again but behave as a father and a husband.

“Say amen,” he quipped to the applause of the congregation.

Mwiti said he is now ready to be a mentor of many through his leadership and lifestyle.

“God, I pray that you will give me power and authority to be a true mentor of the people you have given me to lead,” he prayed.

CLOSED HIS BAR

The Imenti Central MP had earlier led the congregation in declaring that “all alcohol is bad irrespective of first generation or second generation”.

He claimed that he has closed his bar which was earning Sh300, 000 every day in Nairobi out of his resolve to shun alcohol.

“Before I got born again and stopped drinking alcohol, I was drinking the most expensive alcohol in the world and I would get drunk. Don’t believe that only second generation alcohol is bad, ‘Pombe ni Pombe’,” he remarked.

Last week Mwiti whose rape charges have been suspended in court declared he was giving his life to preach the gospel after a life in darkness.
