Bottom side All Stars tackle Sofapaka

Buoyed by the 2-1 win over AF Leopards last weekend, basement side Nakuru All Stars face another daunting task against GOtv holders Sofapaka in a Kenyan Premier League match on Friday at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Goals from Lwamba Bebeto and Patrick Oboya helped the Nakuru side upset Ingwe, although the team is still bottom of the Kenyan Premier League table.

All Stars coach Peter Okidi is however optimistic ahead of this game, saying that he is confident his team will walk away with at least one point.

“We have collected more points in the second leg than we did in the first leg and that shows that our tactics have begun to work. I know it will be difficult against Sofapaka but the boys have promised to snatch at least one point from the match,” he said.

INCONSISTENT RESULTS

Sofapaka have been inconsistent lately, their last match ending in a 1-1 draw against Ushuru FC. The team’s wobbly run in the second could in part be attributed to the loss of several of their key players mid-season.

These inconsistent results have seen 2009 champions losing ground in the title race. Batoto ba Mungu are third on the log with 40 points from 22 matches behind Ulinzi Stars (44) and Gor Mahia (52).

Coach Sam Timbe says that he expects more from his players if they are to realize any of their pre-season ambitions.

“We are in third position on the log but we could have been at a better place right now. The players have been lethargic this season and I keep telling them that they must step up their performance if we are to achieve our ambitions for the season,” Timbe said.

Ulinzi Stars have been excused from local action for the next two weeks due to the ongoing East Africa Military Games, and Sofapaka have an opportunity to take advantage of the soldiers’ absence to reclaim second spot.
